This is a place for me to write about all things of interest to me: redemption, my family, people, eastern cultures, American culture, gender equality, quality films, less than quality films, and of course rock & roll.

The first chapters of Ephesians and Colossians contain odes to Christ that envision all created things as having their origin and telos in him.  As to the origin of all things we read: “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.  He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Col. 16-17).  As for the telos we find that God’s purpose is to “bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ” (Eph. 1:10) and “God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross” (Col. 1: 19-20). I believe that God has been most fully revealed in the person of Jesus Christ. I believe in a good, gracious, and merciful God and hold to the absurd belief that someday, somehow… Shalom (peace, wholeness, completeness). I think Julian of Norwich summed things up well when she said, “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.”

But for now love and hate, truth and lies, beauty and ugliness, life and death, continue to exist side by side because all things have not yet been made right.  People and systems in this world have wills set against the purposes of God to varying degrees.  Living life and drinking it all in can sometimes be dizzying. And so I write. When I write I remember who I am, who we are, where we are, where we are going.  And again, I can breathe and face another day.

In addition to keeping a blog that few people read, I am currently a senior MDiv student at Western Theological Seminary in Holland MI. I have just begun the lengthy process of coming under care of classis for ordination in the Reformed Church in America.

I am married to the love of my life, Erin Ruth. We have two beautiful Children: Rena Elizabeth and Liam Joseph. We love to take walks, listen to lots of music, watch movies and read books by N.T. Wright, Graham Green and Dr. Seuss.

Thanks for reading,

Wayne
