Clive Owen Saves the Human Race and Never Uses a Gun

Children of Men is an amazing apocalyptic tale. It is set in 2027. All of the human beings on planet earth have been sterile for eighteen years. No one really knows why. All sorts of religious and political groups pop up with their own explanations. And then one young girl becomes pregnant. A political activist group wants to take possession of her. In comes Clive Owen’s Character: Theo Faron a man who has lost his faith in God and humanity. Now it is up to him to get this young woman to safety in the midst of a war of apocalyptic proportions: with bombs, fighter plains, machine guns and controlled borders.

The most interesting thing about Children of Men is that Owen’s Character, Theo protects the young woman and lays down his life to bring her to safety and never uses a gun. Though there are many, many chances to grab one. In fact, with the exception of one scene Owen’s Character never resorts to violence. He just runs. He shelters the girl to the best of his ability and he runs. The movie is obviously making some statements about war, violence and border control. But I honestly NEVER imagined an action movie with a hero with no gun. If you can stand a little bit of propaganda, Children of Men is a truly inspiring futuristic action flic with a nonviolent message. Go see it.

Peace,
Wayne

  1. I WILL go see it. I can’t stand a little propaganda though. I demand a lot more than a little. I can’t wait to see it.

I am a sucker for post-apocalyptica in all it’s forms: Brazil, The Matrix, THX 1138, V for Vendetta. I love the opressive government genre so much. UNFORTUNATELY, I have not yet seen this, and I very much want to, all I have heard has been drool, so I’m motivated to.
The fact that the main character never fights with a gun is so cool. Guns are an invention that happened, and now it’s so easy to kill, and so we have to live with that. In the olden days (the good ol’ days?) someone had to overcome a ferocious fear and actually drive a piece of metal into another human being to extinguish their life. They had to use all their strengh inside and out. Now it’s as easy as a push of a button.
